Find out if there are brown flowers and which ones occur
Have you ever wondered if brown flowers exist? It’s something normal, like wondering if there are blue or black flowers. And the answer is not as basic as it may seem.
We did some research and came to the conclusion that brown flowers are unusual. But that does not mean they do not exist. Yes, there are plants whose flower color can be close to brown (or be). Here we leave you to choose from them.

This plant, whose scientific name is Viola cornuta, is a plant that produces brown flowers. Actually, Depending on the sun, they can be a particular color or shade between orange and gold.
They can be enjoyed in April, May, June and July.
Visually they are like thoughts, which tells you that they are uncomplicated to care for and grow in the garden, both in the ground and in a pot. The only thing you need to control is the lighting they receive, as well as the watering you provide them (these are plants that need to keep the soil humid to be hearty).
bearded irises
scientific name German RainbowThis variety in hybrids produces flowers with a brown color, although there are also matte oranges and browns (two additional shades of brown).
If you are specifically looking for something like this, it would be: Duet Brown, Sultan Supreme, Star Bronzette…
When it comes to caring for them, you need to remember that these are outdoor plants that need a lot of featherlight to grow and bloom, as well as watering (this is especially true for hybrid varieties, which need to be more aware of this).
daylilies
When you see the Sweet Warm Chocolate or Sir Mod Red lily varieties, the question of whether brown flowers exist will be completely answered. These are plants where we found more brown plants than there actually are.
These are actually hybrid lilies, which is why we have been able to observe their unusual colors.
Lilies are plants that need a lot of sun and a lot of watering. But they do not tolerate icy at all, so at these times of the year they need to be well protected so that they do not die.
Dahlia
Dahlia pinnata, in the varieties Chocolate Sundae and Black Beauty, has flowers with very, very shadowy petals. While some say it is a shadowy red color, others describe it as a brownish-brown or rusty-gold.
These plants are also very grateful for the sun (the more sun they receive (without getting burned), the more they bloom). In addition, the middle, between yellow and gold, contrasts in such a way with the petals that it attracts the eye of every person.
Tobacco
You may have seen a tobacco flower. But what you may not know is that there are two varieties whose flowers are brown or pinkish brown. These are Chocolate Smoke and Warm Chocolate.
When it comes to their care, they require very regular watering. (since they are hybrids, they require more water than the originals), especially in summer. And since the soil is in full sun, it dries out easily and it is critical to keep it humid.
Another example of the existence of brown flowers.
Brown velvet rose
Among the tea roses there had to be one with brown flowers. In this case, it is a Brown Velvet rose, a variety whose flowers have shadowy petals that fade to brown. They resemble peonies (not ordinary roses).
As for care (because yes, you can buy this variety in nurseries or online), it requires full sun and nutrient-rich soil, as well as moderate watering.
Hibiscus
Normally hibiscus are red, orange… But yes, there are tropical hybrids that produce brown flowers (actually the petals are brown with a yellow and white center). Two of these varieties are the so-called “Creme de cacao” or “Pocahontas”.
Hibiscus are fragile plants. They need consistently humid soil and full sun to bloom (otherwise the plant will wilt).
In winter, they have a very strenuous time tolerating low temperatures, to the point that they can die.
Cymbidium orchids
Another of the brown flowers we can find comes from orchids. For example, Cymbidium floribundum offers orchids with golden edges. OR Cymbidium Charlie Brown is a variety whose petals are brown and whose center is yellow, white and pink.
Care is no different than other orchids. Lots of featherlight, not direct, and I only water when the roots look pale (not featherlight green).
Echibeckia «Summerina Brown»
This plant, scientifically named Rudbeckia x Echinacea, is a cross between the two plants. The flowers it produces are brown petals (actually, they are like burnt orange on the edges and shadowy brown in the middle). In addition, the round cone is almost black, giving the plant a darker and more solemn appearance.
Unlike the shadowy green leaves, they look very austere and are often chosen for wakes and burials.
St. John’s wort
This is also an orchid. But we wanted to talk to you about it because it is one of the few that has reddish-brown petals. The center is very yellow, but the truth is that it contrasts much better with the very shadowy color of the flower.
In terms of care, it needs a lot of featherlight, but not direct. In addition, watering must be controlled, because it tends to retain moisture, which can be harmful to the plant.

And we’re done with this bulbous plant. The plant itself is bushy and blooms from mid-summer to fall, with not very vast but velvety flowers. And, as you know, yes, brown flowers exist. More specifically, they are crimson browns.
And if you love the smell of chocolate, these flowers will make your garden smell just like it.
As you can see, there are many flowers that can answer the question of whether brown flowers exist. Do you know of any other examples that we haven’t mentioned on this list? Share your opinion in the comments!
