More profitable crops, how are they measured?

Have you ever wondered why some plants are considered more profitable crops and others are not? It actually has to do with the profit they generate.

You see, a crop is profitable if the cost you put into that plant, from the time you plant it (worth the excess) until you harvest it, is less than the benefits and profitability you get from it.

These expenses include not only the cost of plants, but also the cost of water, human time, products such as fertilizers, fertilizers and phytosanitary products… You should also take into account possible random events (rain, fire, pests…).

The so-called pattern is used for this purpose. ROA, the formula of which is as follows:

ROA= (profit/asset)*100

If the value is positive, it means that the investment was appropriate and that what you planted is one of the most profitable crops you could have chosen. But if it is negative, then you have a problem because you will be losing money.

What are the most profitable crops?

Olive tree

If you have a more or less vast plantation, planting olive trees may be one of the best options, especially since Spain is the main producer and exporter. AND It does not matter whether they are table olives (those that are eaten) or intended for the preparation of olive oil (remember this is usually high-priced). In total, the country produces 1,270,000 tons of olives annually, and Andalusia is the place where production is highest.

On this basis, there is no doubt that olive trees can be a good solution, especially if a super-intensive system is used that increases production.

Almond

You wouldn’t think of that, would you? However, for some time now there has been a great demand for this fruit, and therefore it is one of the most profitable crops in Spain (it was in 2022 and will be in 2023).

Apart from, There is also not so much competition, especially since we do not have so much demand (although we can already see that this is changing). Please note that at the moment Spain is the third country in terms of production and the second in terms of exports.

Pistachio

And we are left with nuts, because another of the most profitable crops that can be taken into account are pistachios, for which the demand has been growing in recent years.

Of course, unlike other crops, this one is something more “special” and needs the right conditions to be able to grow it and not die along the way. Therefore, for now, the largest producers and distributors are only California and Iran.. But if you can put such conditions on it, know that it has a rather high price per kilogram (only half a hectare and 1,000 kilograms of pistachios can fetch about 6,000 euros).

An avocado

We end up with the most profitable avocado crop. Since many doctors, celebrities and influencers have publicly stated that avocados are great for health, the demand for them has increased. AND just look at how much it costs in grocery stores and supermarkets to know that growing it can be very profitable.

Of course, like the pistachio, it needs a special climate and precise conditions for development. But if you can give them to them, you can get many benefits from them.

What if I have little land?

It may happen that you don’t have a vast piece of land and many of the most profitable crops we have suggested are not the best option for you. Additionally, in the case of lemon trees, they will last for the whole year, and we are already telling you that they are much better than those you buy in grocery stores.

Aromatic and medicinal plants

In the first case, you can plant parsley, thyme, rosemary, mint… and always have them next to the kitchen to take them from the plant itself if necessary and operate it for cooking. When you try it, you will notice the difference.

As for medicinal plants, you can grow chamomile or other medicinal infusions. Of course, you have to consume them, otherwise it may not be worth it.
